As the camper was all packed we decided to split the journey to the Highlands and left mid evening so at least we managed to pass Birmingham and Manchester without any traffic hold ups.
We thought about stopping the night at a service station but at around £20 for overnight parking and the noise from the constant coming and going we decided against it and I found an overnight spot listed on Park4night in the Lake District which looked ideal.
We pulled into the car park at Wet Sleddale reservoir about midnight and went straight to sleep. I made the fatal mistake of turning over and showing signs I was awake about 6 o’clock which was Finn’s cue that it was morning. There was a lovely walk along the reservoir with another early morning dog walker to have a chat to. I would say this was an ideal stopover for anyone travelling north as it is very peaceful, walks on your doorstep and only 5 mins from the M6, except what we didn’t see last night is there are some laminated signs that state no overnighting in vehicles. They are quite small and as it was pitch black we didn’t see them last night, plus there was another motorhome already parked up and it was listed on Park4night so unfortunately it looks like it is not as ideal as first thought and they actually do not want campers using the location anymore.
We continued up to the Highlands and made good progress until about Perth when it became a steady old journey. No traffic jams just single carriage and quite a few lorries
We refuelled at the Tesco extra in Carlise which was so much cheaper than the motorway services and only 2 minutes off the M6.
Vinnie our campervan is spending Friday and Saturday night at a Caravan and Motorhome Club Certificated Location Site in the village of Carrbridge. The site is called Bogroy Croft and at £15 a night with electric is not too bad. Our view is of the cattle and the river. The site is on the edge of the village and there are a couple of hotels/bars that we will hopefully test out tomorrow plus nice walks in Ella’s Wood, past a 300 year old packhorse bridge. If you arrive on a Friday they also have a fish and chip van in the village car park.
