Day six and we have had our first bad weather day. The van was a rocking last night – as we were battered by the wind and rain and it hasn’t really improved all day. Due to the weather we decided not to go to Orrestranda Beach which was a bit further down the coast from where we stopped last night. It is Norway’s longest beach and in nice weather would be a lovely stop but as we have already seen some great beaches we decided to start heading North towards the fjords.
To get across to the western fjords we took our first ferry in Norway from Lauvvik to Oanes. It was only a 15min crossing and cost 103K for a van under 6m (we took our bike rack off before we left home as we were not sure how strict they were on the van length) The cost is considerably increased if you are over 6m.
Unfortunately no stunning pictures of our first ferry or the view of our first fjord as it was still raining with low clouds. There are a few pics below that we will call dark and moody Norway.
Even though the weather wasn’t great Finn wasn’t going to let us off the hook without a walk so we found a woodland walk up over the side of the mountain to a lake at the top. Unfortunately the rain had turned the footpath into a bit of a river in places but we still had some stunning scenery and the place all to ourselves, I wonder why? Plus we know the new waterproof trousers work. The forecast looks to be improving for tomorrow so we have found a picnic spot for the night a few miles from Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) carpark. We did have a look but they do not allow overnight camping in the carpark. The plan is to do the hike to the rock tomorrow. We may all be a bit tired tomorrow evening. For a rainy evening like tonight there is nothing for it now but to drink more wine and cider while watching a couple more episodes of 24.
