Chilly weekend in Ashton under Hill, Gloucestershire

Following the coldest night of the year for most of the UK and the first snow of the year in Gloucestershire we left the comfort of our cottage for the ‘comfort’ of our campervan for a weekend away. In reality we are not really that mad as we do have heating in the van, which was tested to the max with a low overnight of -7C.

Our campsite was a Caravan and Motorhome Club CL site at Rails End Nursery in Ashton under Hill, WR11 7RG for £15 a night including electric.

On our first evening we cooked Sausage Hotpot in the camper. A great recipe that can be easily adapted as a vegetarian recipe. Everything that we cook in the van has to satisfy both a veggie and a meat eater while still using only two gas rings. This can be a bit of a challenge!

Saturday, although very cold had beautiful blue skies so we did a lovely walk to another village Elmley Castle. This was a circular route with a welcome refreshment stop at The Queen Elizabeth Inn in Elmley. This is a great dog friendly community pub and café.

We finished the weekend with another great meal that was good value for money in the dog friendly village pub, only a 5 minute walk from the campsite. This was The Star Inn at Ashton under Hill.
