Lago d’Idro to Lake Como

We left Lago d’Idro quite early on Sunday morning hoping to make it to Lake Como before it got too hot and too busy, we failed on both counts.

Unfortunately,  we not only got caught in the Sunday traffic of everyone going to the lake but we also got stuck in a political rally. It took us about an hour to do a few miles as we were caught in all the supporters of the Italian far-right League going to their annual gathering in Pontida. Although it was only when I googled it that I realised what it was and about 50,000 people were there!

The campsite we stopped at had good reviews, I think we were just a bit unfortunate arriving on a Sunday, plus it was extremely windy. There was only one pitch left on the lake shore, which sounded great until we realised there was a very strong wind blowing in off the lake and we were basically the wind break now for everyone behind us. We wondered why there was a tent moving pitches as we arrived! Plus the public beach just outside the campsite was like Benidorm.

After a quick look at the map we found a small beach marked which was about a 2 mile walk away through the woods. We decided to head there hoping that it would be quieter and Finn could have a swim. Well it took a bit of effort but was well worth it. There was a little pebble beach with no one else there so Finn & Andy had a swim while I had a paddle and we watched the speed boats crisscrossing Lake Como. It was our perfect little oasis.
