Banteux in Northern France – we are on our way!

We are on our way and have just spent our first night in France at a great little Aire municipale in a village called Banteux in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region. It was €5 with all facilities including electric, with a lovely walk along the Canal de St. Quentin right next door. In Camper Contact  it says there is a maximum of 3 spaces but it looks like it has been extended as there is a large hard standing area and 8 electric points now. There were 5 campers when we were there and I guy came round in the evening to collect the €5. i would highly recommend this handy little stopover as it is only a 10 minute drive off the A26.

The plan for this adventure is to travel through France fairly quickly to southern Switzerland and then onto the Italian Lakes. We have two new purchases for this trip, a Webber Gas BBQ that we can run from the LPG tank, fingers crossed for some nice weather so we get to use it and the second new purchase is an inflatable kayak. We have purchased a Sevylor Ottawa kayak which apparently inflates in 3 minutes and is ‘almost’ impossible to capsize! I do have a bit of history on getting very wet in a canoe so watch this space on how we get on with the kayak and how wet we get. I will add that we also have life jackets for us as well as a dog buoyancy aid for Finn. I am not sure what he is going to make of it. Our old dog was great in a canoe and at one point was the only one still aboard after everyone else had fallen in, our younger model is a little bit more excitable, what could possibly go wrong!
