We have been travelling for 3 weeks so are half way through our tour of Northern Spain.
This is an overview of our adventure so far with details on all our overnight stopover locations and a breakdown of how much it cost us.
The plan is for this trip to last just over 6 weeks which includes driving through France and Northern Spain and back again. Check out our blog post on driving through France on non toll roads for more information on why we use the Eurotunnel and drive rather than the ferry.

Cost so far
The total trip cost so far is just over €1000, this excludes the Eurotunnel as I use Tesco Clubcard Vouchers to pay for that. If you don’t shop at Tesco’s you can expect to pay about £200 for a return trip for a Motorhome. The top three areas of costs are diesel, food and campsites.
Our favourite overnight stopovers
- Camping El Rosal in San Vincente de la Barquera
- Area de AC in Cóbreces
- Area de AC in Playa de San Pedru la Ribera
Our top 5 highlights (in no particular order!)
- San Juan de Gaztelugatxe
- Soustons Plage
- Barru
- Llanes
- Cudillero
So far we have been following the coast and beach hopping from one place to the next. For the next half of the trip we are going to turn inland and head to the national parks that northern Spain is famous for. Fingers crossed the weather is as kind to us for the next few weeks as it has been for the first half and the rain keeps away. The temperatures should start dropping a bit as we get to the end of September which will be much more pleasant to walk in.
